Three things puzzle me when I played Dragon Age II and I met Alistair.
First: Kings are choosen by the people?!
Second: How could Logain be still alive and Alistair be the king? I though we can’t have both (I played the prebuild”The Marty”)
Third: Alistair certain notices Isabela looks VERY different from Origins
Firstly, he wasn’t chosen by the PEOPLE, as much as he was chosen by the Landsmeet. And from what I understand, that’s not the way they usually do it. However, Cailan’s death was sort of…..unpredicted, and he didn’t have an heir to take over. Which only left his wife Anora, who by blood was a Mac Tir, not a Theirin. The Theirin line has ruled Ferelden since the Blessed age, not counting the time of the Orlesian occupation. As such, many people would prefer to see a Theirin on the throne. Anora was Cailan’s wife, but she’s not a Theirin. Alistair, however, is. A bastard such, but a son of Maric none the less. And so the Landsmeet, heavily influenced by the Warden, votes for who takes the throne, Alistair or Anora.
Now, as Alistair is chosen king, no matter how pissed he gets, he can’t just leave. And so when we chose to spare Loghain, he was pissed, but remained king. Now, what I assume you were thinking of would be that Loghain then kills the Archdemon and dies from that. That is, however, not necessary. If Loghain, or a male Warden, performs the dark ritual with Morrigan, you will both survive. So end game, Alistair is king, and Loghain survives. Taadaaaaa \o/
